Cynthia Hamel

Cynthia has happily taken on the role as the resident to correct any mispronunciation of te reo Māori (the Māori language) at Harris Tate. But where we may fall short on our words, she has already declared there is no shortage of kai (food) in the building.

Initially starting at Harris Tate as a Law Clerk, Cynthia is now a Solicitor with a keen interest to get stuck into mahi (work) and to help Māori, and other clients.

She had the opportunity to study law several years ago but instead decided to focus on raising her children. After an initial OE that lasted ten years, followed by seven more years living in Australia, Turkey and Canada, Cynthia brought her children back to New Zealand to reconnect with whānau (family) and Aotearoa.

Cynthia is very proud of her Māori heritage, and while studying at the University of Waikato where she graduated with an honours law degree, Cynthia realised she had a passion for Māori legal issues. This passion compels Cynthia to want to deal with any matters concerning te whenua (the land) and te iwi (the people).

Cynthia will happily admit that she has come into the profession later in life. This is to her advantage because that experience gives Cynthia the understanding and the confidence to work with her clients to resolve problems and achieve results.
